This is the secondin a multi-part series on how to build a linux-based home server.See Part 1.

ownCloud is a file sharing service similar to Dropbox or Skydrive, expect you can host it in your home to share files, photos, and videos with all of the other devices in your home. In Part 2, we’ll set up ownCloudon our LinuxMint computer. If you haven’t already set up Linux Mint, refer to thefirst post in this series on how to do that. Follow these simple instructions and you’ll have ownCloudup and running in no time.

The best way to do is to have this post pulled up on Firefox that is installed by default on Linux Mint.

Installing Owncloud Logon to Linux Mint.

Download the following file using the Firefox which is already installed on Linux Mint.

https://download.owncloud.org/download/repositories/stable/Ubuntu_16.04/Release.key

Click the Menu and select Administration -> Software Sources then enter your password.

Click “Additional Repositories” and then click “Add new repository”.

opy and Paste everything in the quotes (but not the quotes) into the text box then click “OK”.

“deb https://download.owncloud.org/download/repositories/stable/Ubuntu_16.04//”

Select “Authentication keys” and then click “Import key file…”

Find the file called “release.key” we download in step 2, then click “Open”

Click “Update the cache” in the top right corner. This will take a few minute depending on the speed of your internet connection.

Open the menu and select “Software Manger” and enter your password.

In the search box on at the top right corner, type in “owncloud” and s

elect the item in the list called “owncloud”, (not owncloud-client!).

Click “Install”. This will take a few minute depending on the speed of your internet connection. If it hangs at 96%, it probably installed OK. Just close the window.

Open Firefox and type in http://localhost/owncloud This will open Owncloud.

Create your admin account by typing in a username and password, then click “Finish Setup”. Don’t forget the username and password because we will need them later.

“Welcome to Owncloud” should appear next.
