As part of a small POC I’m currently writing a bunch of DSC configurations to be used in an environment from a software vendor.

This vendor has about 10+ different products, consisting of multiple components and installed over multiple servers.

So, that sounds like a lot of work… especially when I discovered that each component needs about 10+ windows features to be installed.

Logically I would turn to automation to make my life easier, right?

What if I could query an already installed server, list what features are installed and based on that, generate the appropriate section of the DSC configuration code?

(Get-WindowFeature | where {$_.installstate -eq 'Installed'}).Name | foreach { "WindowsFeature Install$($_ -replace '-','') { Ensure = 'Present' Name = '$_' } " }

Well, like that!
