Does Amazon know something we don’t about Microsoft’s (not so) big upcoming NYChardware event ? Maybe, and maybe not, but if theSurface Phone is indeed delayed for 2018, perhaps Redmond can throw windows 10 convertible enthusiasts a bone or two on October 26 after all.

The Surface Pro 4 tablet andSurface Book laptop are technically due for hardware upgrades this month, and while the Intel Kaby Lake architecture comes with marginal performance and battery efficiency improvements over Skylake processors inside last year’s 2-in-1 device generation, we’ll take whatever we can get.

Anything is better than nothing, and the abovementioned super-trusted e-tailer all of a sudden labels the Surface Book and Pro 4 the “old versions.” It could be a gaffe or a coincidence, but at the same time, a “source familiar with the matter” reached out to Windows Central and confirmed a Kaby Lake Surface Book that “looks identical to the current version is being talked about at the company.”

Wait, it’s being talked about ? Then it can’t possibly go official in less than two weeks, instead heading for a spring launch event where we also expect the Windows 10 Redstone 2 update to see daylight on the software front. Still, there’s hope forSurface Book 2 and Surface Pro 5 announcements taking place sooner rather than later. Some hope. A glimmer of it, at the very least.
